July 30, 2018 Staff reporters

Enjoy spring in Melbourne while visiting this year’s Australian College of Optometry’s (ACO’s) 2018 national conference. Held at the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground from 20-21 October, this year’s focus is on best practice and the future of optometry practice.

Charles Brass, chair of the Futures Foundation, will deliver the Saturday keynote lecture, ‘Making your future work – successfully navigating uncertainty’, offering insight on how to deal with the inevitable uncertainty we will all face and how to make more strategic plans. While Sunday’s keynote, Professor David Mackey, will address the impact of genetic and environmental factors on ocular health. Other topics include the challenges and opportunities of a myopic future; the future of paediatric eye care; whether technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation will have a detrimental impact on the optometry profession; problematic and interdisciplinary case studies; glaucoma updates; and many more. “The programme has been carefully planned, with input from optometrists, to ensure we cover the diverse scope of the profession and cater to optometrists at any stage of their career,” said organisers.

CPD points for New Zealand will be made available on the ACO website shortly. For more information and to register, visit http://www.aco.org.au/
