AI for papilloedema

Scientists from Singapore have successfully developed a deep-learning system to help non-ophthalmologist physicians detect papilloedema from fundus photographs.

The AI system was trained on 15,846 retrospectively collected ocular fundus photographs, obtained with pharmacologic pupillary dilation from various digital cameras and from patients with ethnically diverse backgrounds.

The study was funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council and was published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
