NZAO conference 2019

July 5, 2019 Staff reporters

The annual New Zealand Optometrist Association (NZAO) conference is now open for registration. This year the conference will be held on 18-19 October in sunny Hawkes Bay. The venue will be the refurbished Napier Conference Centre on Marine Parade.

Tasked with putting the programme together, Wilson Sue said, “The NZAO conference is an annual optometry gathering with CPD, set in a family friendly part of the country. It provides plenty of time for relaxed education and networking with colleagues old and new.”

The programme is a mix of plenary sessions with late afternoon concurrent workshops (three streams), Sue said. “There will be a mix of overseas and local speakers presenting, with keynotes by Professor Allison McKendrick from The University of Melbourne’s Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, and Drs Angelica Ly and Jack Phu, both with the Centre for Eye Health, University of New South Wales.”

Time will be allowed for in-depth discussion and interaction, with lectures being up to 45 minutes and workshops up to 90 minutes. “Friday afternoon’s ‘Survivor Napier: Optometry Quiz Edition’ also looks very interesting,” Sue said, adding that the winner is rumoured to be granted tribal immunity from random audit by The Optometrists Board (rumour to be confirmed)!
