Selected from more than 200 entries, eye care technology social enterprise oDocs Eye Care is one of eight finalists in the Spark 5G Starter Fund challenge.

The aim of Spark 5G Starter Fund is to advance early-stage, 5G-enabled solutions or prototypes to demonstrable minimal viable products in four categories: next generation health, good for New Zealand, industry disruptors and immersive experiences.

oDocs founder and CEO, ophthalmology registrar Dr Sheng Chiong Hong said the nomination was a great boost to the company and its mission to end preventable blindness globally. “We want to save millions, if not billions of sights in years to come. With 5G technology, we can now do much more for New Zealanders! It will enhance our experience to provide efficient and effective eye care through our free and secure teleophthalmology platform.”

The four category winners will be announced on 28 October 2020. Each will receive a share of the $625,000 prize package and access to Spark’s 5G Co-Lab, and benefit from 5G tech support and business mentoring from the judges and Spark over the next four months.
