Safilo has teamed up with Aquafil, a recognised global manufacturer of synthetic fibres, to introduce Econyl regenerated nylon into its eyewear collections.

The partnership is another step in Safilo’s sustainability strategy and commitment to bring innovation to the industry, said Safilo Group CEO Angelo Trocchia. “Our investment to using recycled materials highlights our continued efforts towards promoting a responsible business. This sustainable material will allow us to create products without using new resources. Our intention is to expand the use of Econyl as much as possible to decrease our carbon footprint.”

Econyl regenerated nylon is developed through the regeneration and purification process of plastic waste, such as fishing nets, old carpets and fabric scraps. Econyl performs exactly the same as brand new nylon and it can be recycled, recreated and remoulded again and again, with no loss of quality, , said Trocchia.

Tommy Hilfiger’s new Tommy Jeans eyewear collection, one of Safilo’s licensed brands, is the first featuring styles made from Econyl.
