The British Contact Lens Association’s (BCLA) recently published contact lens evidence-based academic report (CLEAR) summarised current research, revised terminology and risk factors for contact lens wearers. Eleisha Dudson, president of the Cornea & Contact Lens Society (CCLS) New Zealand described the report’s summary as concise and easy-to-read. “This summary has information outlining uniform terminology; highlights the correct use of dyes; and outlines what we know about contact lens comfort, fitting, modalities and design.”

It also discusses what eyecare professionals might not know, she said. “It is a great resource for practitioners to easily keep current on the best practice for both anterior eye examination and contact lens assessment. The CCLS recommends this resource and the full range of CLEAR Reports.”

The full report is published in Contact Lens & Anterior Eye and includes an overview paper on anatomy and physiology of the anterior eye by a panel chaired by Melbourne University’s Associate Professor Laura Downie. The report summary is available from www.bcla.org.uk/Public/Public/Member_Resources/CLEAR.aspx
