The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Foundation has announced a new fellowship for early-career researchers investigating uveitis or other inflammatory conditions.

“We are thrilled with Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals’ initiative in funding this fellowship,” said Dr Paul Sternberg, ARVO Foundation chair.

The Mallinckrodt Uveitis Research Fellowship offers a one-year grant of US$45,000 to allow ARVO members working in a nonprofit or academic research centre the freedom to explore causes and components of uveitis or similar disorders in novel ways, to stimulate further insights and advances in the ocular inflammation space.

“This fellowship aims to uncover the mechanisms behind conditions like uveitis, providing the vision community with vital information for additional research,” said Dr Tunde Otulana, Mallinckrodt’s chief medical officer. “We are honoured to support the ARVO Foundation in fostering the next generation of answer seekers, treatment developers and cure finders.”

Applications for the new fellowship will be open from 1 July to 1 September 2019.
