A US cough simulation test clearly demonstrates that a standard slit lamp shield only offers limited protection from respiratory dropletshighlighting the need for patients to wear a correctly fitted mask for effective protection.

In the video demonstration, shared by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Dr Tina Felfeli from Toronto University in Canadaused ultraviolet conditions to assess the spread of respiratory droplets when a patient coughed during a slit-lamp examinationHer team found wearing a correctly fitted mask significantly reduced the droplets and a correctly fitted cloth mask was more effective compared with an incorrectly fitted surgical mask
