Registration is now open for O=Mega19, the highly anticipated conference and optical fair, which has replaced the SRC and biennial ODMA fair.

Presented by Optometry Victoria and ODMA, O=MEGA19 will take place on 19-21 July at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre.

The clinical programme runs across three days, featuring experts from across the world and the Australia-Pacific optical industry, and is tailored to meet the needs of optometrists at all stages of their career, said organisers. Optometrists can choose to attend one, two or three days of the conference. A separate, dedicated masterclass programme is also on offer for optical dispensers and practice managers. O=Mega19 also includes clinical CPD points, networking opportunities, a showcase of more than 100 exhibitors and a fully staffed childcare centre (fees apply).

Keynote speakers at the conference include Professor Danica Marrelli, assistant dean of clinical education at the University of Houston College of Optometry, and Dr Jordan Keith, chair of the Minnesota Optometric Association Education Committee. Other speakers include contact lens specialists, David Foresto and Gavin O’Callaghan, and paediatric specialists, Dr Lionel Kowal and Associate Professor Rod Baker. Dr Kowal will share his experience of managing tropias, while A/Prof Baker will discuss emmetropisation and other developmental considerations in early childhood, including how to approach a child with literacy difficulties in early primary school.

Several research speakers will also share their work and how this will influence future optometry practice, including Professor Erica Fletcher who will provide an update on the treatment and management of early age-related macular degeneration; Associate Professor Bang Bui who will share the importance of understanding how blood pressure alters the risk of glaucoma; and Associate Professor Jennifer Craig, who will present recent insights into dry eye disease.

An early bird rate of A$399 for the full three days is on offer until 23 April.
