Skye Cappuccio, interim CEO at Optometry Australia (OA) since October 2022, has been confirmed as permanent CEO.
With a strong background in advocacy and policy and with more than 10 years with OA, Cappuccio is well positioned to lead the organisation and continue to advance the interests of the profession in Australia, said Margaret Lam, national president of the OA board. “Skye’s demonstrated leadership, deep knowledge of the profession and her experience in advocacy and policy make her the ideal person to lead Optometry Australia into the future. We are delighted to have her as our CEO and look forward to continuing to work with her to support our members and advance the profession.”
A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Cappuccio holds a postgraduate diploma of public health and is finalising her Master of Business Administration degree with a focus on social impact. She previously served as OA’s national general manager of member support and optometry advancement. During this time, she was integral to numerous critical projects, such as Optometry 2040; the successful campaign to secure the removal of the Medicare fee cap; major pieces of work around evolving scope of practice; and the strategic direction and implementation of OA’s widely recognised CPD programme, the Optometry Australia Institute of Excellence.
As CEO, Cappuccio said she will be committed to building on the foundation laid by her predecessor Lyn Brodie and ensuring OA remains a strong and influential voice for optometry and optometrists in Australia. She remains particularly passionate about supporting ongoing evolution to ensure a robust future for the profession.
