The Ocular Research By Integrated Training And Learning (ORBITAL) project will bring academics, industry, clinicians, patient advocacy groups and hospitals together from September to create patient-friendly solutions for blinding diseases, thanks to €4million of European funding.

Project lead Dr Laurence Fitzhenry has been awarded the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie European Training Network award for funding of the ORBITAL programme, which will focus on less invasive drug delivery than traditional injections to treat back of the eye diseases, such age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.

ORBITAL is a consortium of 23 members from Europe, Canada and the US and will be led by researchers at Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland.
