A dermatologist in a Saudi Arabian clinic has successfully treated a case of eyelid ptosis attributed to cosmetic Botox injection with brimonidine 0.33% gel (Mirvaso Gel).

Writing in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Derma Clinic’s Dr Ghadah Alotaib said brimonidine gel, developed to treat open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension and rosacea, was applied to the upper eyelid of a 35-year-old woman with unilateral ptosis four days after receiving Botox. Prior to treatment, her affected eye’s marginal reflex distance was 2mm vs 4mm in the healthy eye. An hour after the gel’s application, the eyelid was elevated by 2mm for around two hours, with no adverse effects, said authors.
