Combination treatment consensus for myopia management

An advisory group of myopia specialists agreed a combination of Hoya’s MiyoSmart spectacle lenses and 0.01% atropine drops is currently the most effective treatment for myopia management in European children.

A virtual advisory meeting, hosted by Hoya Vision Care, brought together five well-known specialists in paediatric myopia from Europe and Asia to share insights based on clinical experience and research. Discussing the results of clinical application of the MiyoSmart spectacle lens where the expected goal using the lens alone was not achieved, the group noted better myopia control with the combination treatment. They reported no significant changes in visual acuity or binocular vision between the use of MiyoSmart spectacle lenses alone or in combination with low-dose atropine.

This promising early treatment is an exciting development as we continue to seek an evidence-based approach to myopia management in children, said Professor Hakan Kaymak, Internationale Innovative Ophthalmochirurgie, Duesseldorf, Germany. “The consensus reached on the combination treatment protocol helps eyecare professionals make informed decisions in addressing the growing global challenge of myopia.”
