Ellex: introducing Tango Reflex Neo

Unveiled globally for the first time, the Tango Reflex Neo second-generation laser and Premium Refractive Outcome Capsulotomy (PROcap) technology took pride of place on Ellex’s stand at RANZCO in Brisbane. The new tech attracted a lot of attention, said Ellex’s Vanessa Standing. “The feedback has been phenomenal. Reflex technology has always been our premium range and this is just that next step.”

 

The Tango Reflex laser system is a multi-treatment platform for selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and all anterior and posterior YAG laser procedures, including laser floater treatment (LFT). Welcomed when launched for its multi-functional abilities at lower, more efficient energy levels, its visualisation accuracy and illumination, and its ability to treat debilitating floaters, it did, however, require surgeons to perform SLT procedures off-axis, ie. with the light tower to the side, said Ellex’s anterior segment laser specialist Matthew Metcalfe. But, after more than three years development at Ellex’s manufacturing headquarters in Adelaide, this second-generation reflex technology has solved that by incorporating a vertical adjustable illumination tower, which is fully automated for different procedures, he said. “The design allows for titratable illumination from full to partial or no red-reflex, giving complete spatial integrity and excellent contrast of the posterior capsule.”

 

PROcap enables YAG posterior offset up to 2mm

 

The new PROcap technology takes the ease, efficacy and safety of the second-generation laser up a further notch, said Metcalfe. It’s the first system to automatically allow the surgeon to extend its posterior offset from the standard 500μm to 2,000μm (2mm), thus ensuring fewer residual capsule fragments and superior intraocular lens (IOL) protection, while still allowing precise capsulotomy diameters, he said. “We’re now up to fifth generation cataract machines and sixth generation biometry calculations, and IOLs have gone through continuous design improvements, all to provide the best visual outcomes for your patient. So, we thought, why can’t we do that with YAG as well? They go hand-in-hand, it’s the final stage of a patient’s cataract journey!”
