Keratoconus in Down syndrome study

October 31, 2019 Staff reporters

Researchers are seeking more participants for the Keratoconus in Down syndrome (KIND 21) project after already successfully providing comprehensive corneal imaging for over 100 volunteers.

The University of Auckland study aims to provide keratoconus screening for at least 200 participants with Down syndrome by February 2020, monitor for progression and refer those who require treatment for corneal collagen cross-linking.

The KIND 21 project team of Joyce Mathan, Heather Reynolds, Dr Samantha Simkin, Dr Akilesh Gokul, Professor Dipika Patel and Professor Charles McGhee would like more individuals with Down syndrome aged 10 years or above, able to express agreement, to participate.
