Following last year’s successful virtual events, Specsavers has kicked off this year’s clinical conference (SCC) series, offering parallel streams of online and in-person events across major cities in Australia and New Zealand.
The SCC 2021 hybrid series will showcase best-practice resources and professional development to the broader industry, said Dr Ben Ashby, Specsavers director of optometry. “Last year’s online event series was a great success, however, we are excited to be able to get back to delivering some in-person events this year.”
SCC 2021 events will run from May to October, covering topics including glaucoma diagnosis and co-management, diabetic retinopathy screening, macular degeneration, visual fields and optical coherence tomography (OCT), cataracts, improving patient care and working collaboratively. As part of the series, Specsavers will also present its annual Doug Perkins Medal, recognising clinical excellence, plus The Dame Mary Perkins Award for outstanding patient care.
An Auckland live event is confirmed for 14 July at the Sofitel Auckland and includes the topic, Providing culturally appropriate eyecare, presented by cultural strategist Andrew Baker from 3Degrees. It will also feature CPD talks from ophthalmologist Dr Shenton Chew on collaborative glaucoma care. The event will start at 6pm, with the conference and webinar commencing from 7pm.
The events are open and free to all New Zealand and Australian optometrists and optometry students. CPD points will be confirmed as the events are announced.
