It’s been a long time coming, but it’s well worth the wait, said Toomac’s Mark Taylor presenting Haag-Streit’s EyeStar 900, a swept-source OCT for cataract and refractive surgery. “EyeStar was born with the class-leading strengths of the Lenstar 900 biometer, ie. hugely accurate and reproducible axial lengths and class leading keratometry.”

According to Haag-Streit, the Eyestar 900’s new state-of-the-art technology enables precise measurement, as well as topographic assessment of the front and back corneal surface and the anterior chamber, including the lens. It’s a future-proof swept-source OCT, explained Taylor. “It offers versatile tools for both cataract and refractive surgery in one fully automated device.

“Its corneal topography feature set includes difference and trend views, as well as sophisticated screening aids for corneal ectasia, while the integrated Belin ABCD grading system provides intuitive data for efficient keratoconus screening and progression assessment.”

Other tools within the Eyestar 900 include Zernike wavefront cornea analysis, visual acuity simulation for patient education and EyeSuite IOL cataract planning software, he said. “Intuitive displays, such as difference or trend views, support the diagnostic process, allowing the user to identify anatomical anomalies that may interfere with planned surgical procedures. Along with an onboard toric calculator and surgery planner, it truly is the Swiss Army knife of ophthalmology!”
