Within the elegant surrounds of the Christchurch Club, over 120 guests gathered in October to mark a significant milestone: the 10th anniversary of St George’s Eye Care, the private ophthalmic practice within St George’s Hospital.
Founded in 2015, St George’s Eye Care has become a cornerstone of bespoke cataract and ophthalmic treatment in Christchurch and across the South Island. Led by Dr Paul Baddeley, specialist in cataract, glaucoma, and eyelid surgery, and Dr Oliver Comyn, specialising in cataract and both medical and surgical retina care, the clinic has earned a reputation for clinical excellence and personalised patient care.

The anniversary event was a vibrant celebration of that success and brought together a lively crowd of optometrists, hospital staff, local colleagues and clinic team members – all key figures in the clinic’s journey.
Guests enjoyed a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, fuelled by delicate canapés and fine local wines. It was a great time for colleagues and friends to reconnect and reflect on the shared mission of improving eye health in the region.
A highlight of the evening was a stunning live performance by acclaimed local singer-songwriter Lee Martin, accompanied by her smooth and soulful jazz saxophonist. The duo’s performance added a touch of glamour and joy to an already unforgettable night.

It’s been an incredible journey, said Dr Baddeley. “This evening is not only a celebration of our clinic, but of all people who’ve helped shape it – our colleagues, referrers and our patients. We’re proud of the service we provide and the difference we've made in our community.”
“Our work is built on collaboration, trust and continuous improvement. Tonight’s celebration is a reflection of that spirit – and we’re excited for what the next decade will bring,” said Dr Comyn.
Here’s to the next 10 years!
