Israeli startup Ophthalmic Sciences has developed a virtual-reality-like headset to contactlessly measure intraocular pressure (IOP).
IOPerfect combines varying air pressure and AI-based visual analysis of vascular pressure response to measure IOP in less than two minutes without the need for eye drops or calibration, according to a company statement. The device is the foundation of an eyecare remote diagnostics suite the company is developing for early detection of cataract, corneal oedema and exophthalmia, together with the early identification of vascular occlusions and ocular motor disorders.
IOPerfect is currently undergoing clinical trials, the results of which should be submitted to the US Food and Drugs Administration in 2022, allowing the device to be sold in the US and Europe in 2023, said Ophthalmic Sciences.
