With less than a month to go, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) will welcome delegates to its 54th clinical congress in Perth from 20-23 October.
Hosted at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, this year’s format is shorter, offering three days jam-packed with education and networking opportunities. Cave-diver Dr Craig Challen, OAM, who was awarded the Star of Courage for his heroic role in the rescue of the trapped Thai soccer team in 2018, with share this experience and its implications for teamwork, leadership and working in a difficult environment in the opening address.
Other high-calibre speakers include: Sydney-based medical retinal specialist Dr Jennifer Arnold, who will deliver the Council Lecture reflecting on how a combination of clinical work and research can provide the key to a rewarding professional life; Professor Kathryn Burdon, Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania, will cover genetic diagnosis for rare eye disease in this year’s Ida Mann lecture; while Professor Shigeru Kinoshita, chair of Frontier Medical Science and Technology for Ophthalmology at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, will deliver the Sir Norman Gregg lecture on the expanding field of corneal regenerative medicine.
