One-year data from Hoya Vision Care’s Early Experience Programme (EEP), which gathered feedback on Miyosmart’s Chameleon sun lenses, showed high adaptation rate and overall satisfaction.

Hoya collected and analysed data from 100 patients, aged three to 20 years old, located across Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, to evaluate the acceptance of Miyosmart Chameleon photochromic lenses and gain insights into wearers’ habits. The results showed 80% of wearers adapted to their new spectacle lenses within one day, regardless of age or ethnicity, and all participants were satisfied with their visual performance during various activities, with 98% reporting overall satisfaction at the three-month mark. Children averaged 12 hours of wear on weekdays, maximising the effectiveness of myopia management, while wearing the lenses for two weeks significantly reduced light sensitivity (n=12) in those using atropine eyedrops as a part of combination treatment, said Hoya. Although a larger study may be needed to draw conclusions, the results around combination treatment are promising, said the company.

The data will be shared with eyecare professionals and parents to answer their questions about the Miyosmart sun range and to continue to gain insights into patients’ habits and behaviours while wearing the product, said Hoya. Released in 2023, the Miyosmart Chameleon photochromic lenses are designed to provide myopia management alongside protected outdoor activity by rapidly adapting to sunlight and fading back to clear indoors within seconds.
