Hoya’s Miyosmart lenses with Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) technology offers sustained myopia control effect, according to a year-three follow-up study. 

Conducted by the Centre for Myopia Research at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the study builds on the centre’s earlier two-year study findings, demonstrating that daily wear of the Miyosmart lens slowed the progression of myopia on average by 60% in children aged 8-13. The three-year follow-up included 120 children: 65 who wore DIMS lenses for the whole period and 55 children who used a single-vision lens for two years, followed by the DIMS lens in the third year.  

Results in the first group showed that the slowing in myopia progression over time was sustained and the group that moved from single-vision to the DIMS lens showed a significant and immediate slow-down in the progression of myopia. “The results of the three-year follow-up study on the Miyosmart lens are very positive, providing evidence that the lens continues to slow myopia progression in children, including impressive results when switching from a single-vision lens,” said Griffith Altmann, chief technology officer at Hoya Vision Care.  

The study was published by the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
