Auckland-based consultant ophthalmologist Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer CNZM is the first New Zealander to be appointed president of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Society of Australia (NOSA), reflecting her significant contributions to the field of neuro-ophthalmology.

Under her leadership, NOSA will host its annual conference in Auckland in 2025 from 11–13 September at the Fable Auckland hotel. It will be a landmark occasion for the neuro-ophthalmology community, said Prof Danesh-Meyer, as for the first time optometrists and other allied health professionals with an interest in neuro-ophthalmology are being encouraged to attend together with their ophthalmologist colleagues. “This prestigious meeting will bring together leading experts from around the world, with a particular emphasis on translating cutting-edge research into clinical practice and fostering greater collaboration, reflecting our commitment to advancing care through interdisciplinary engagement and shared expertise.”

A highlight will be the keynote address by Professor Ari Green from the University of California, San Francisco, Weill Institute for Neurosciences, who is an internationally renowned authority on multiple sclerosis and inflammatory optic neuropathies, said Prof Danesh-Meyer. “Prof Green’s expertise and groundbreaking research have shaped the understanding and treatment of these complex conditions, making his contribution to the conference highly anticipated.”
