Dr Leo Sheck has joined the team at Retina Specialists.
An Auckland-based consultant, Dr Sheck has specialist knowledge in medical retina, electrodiagnostics, ocular genetics and cataract surgery. He is the current chair of the New Zealand Save Sight Society and a member of the RANZCO Futures of Ophthalmology committee, having completed an MBA at Cambridge University, where he studied the effect of artificial intelligence on clinical medicine.
Retina Specilaists Dr Rachel Barnes said she was pleased to welcome Dr Sheck to the team. “He is a young, dynamic specialist who brings excellent training, which he received first at Auckland with us and subsequently at Moorfields in London. With his sub-specialist knowledge in medical retina and genetics he’s an excellent fit for what we pride ourselves on at our practice.”
Dr Sheck said it’s a great privilege to be working with Dr Dianne Sharp, Associate Professor Andrea Vincent and Dr Rachel Barnes, given their expertise in the field and having had their support and guidance through this training. He was also looking forward to joining the private sector and having more time to spend with patients and deliver more personalised management plans to help restore their sight.
Seamless communication between eye care professionals (ECPs) is essential to high quality care, he said, adding he has a website (https://leosheck.com) which allows any ECP to forward unusual OCT images for advice from their computer or smartphone.
