Austrian family-owned company Silhouette’s production of rimless eyewear is now CO2 neutral, thanks to carbon-reduction projects and offsetting.
Silhouette’s use of ‘green’ electricity has enabled it to halve its carbon footprint in the last seven years. This was achieved in part by installing large solar panels on the roofs of its production facilities and replacing combustion-engine vehicles with electric and hybrid alternatives.
Any emissions Silhouette cannot eliminate are offset by purchasing certificates from Gold Standard projects, with the brand currently supporting a six-megawatt solar-energy farm in India.
