The Vision Research Foundation (VRF) is offering 12 travelling scholarships to Māori and Pasifika optometry and medical students to attend the Women in Vision conference as part of its commitment to foster diversity and inclusion in vision science.

By supporting the participation of these students, the foundation aims to provide opportunities for underrepresented groups to engage with cutting-edge research, network with leading professionals and gain inspiration from women leaders in the industry, said Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer, VRF founding scientific director and co-founder of Women in Vision. “This initiative not only helps bridge the gap in educational and professional opportunities but also enriches the conference with diverse perspectives, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and inclusive future for vision research and care.”

This year’s Women in Vision conference will be held at the Heritage Hotel, Queenstown, 28–30 November. The scholarships cover airfares, accommodation and registration and, although aimed primarily at students, practitioners are also eligible.
