Belgian startup Morrow has added Zeiss Ventures to its list of backers, which have collectively invested more than €25m (NZ$40.7m) to help bring its liquid crystal display (LCD) auto-focusing spectacles to market.
A spin-off out of Belgian R&D organisation Imec and the University of Ghent, Morrow’s 3D-printed polyamide and titanium spectacles can switch focal length between distance and near using liquid crystal technology embedded between two thin-cut optical lenses. The wearer activates a small electrical current to cause the liquid crystal to refract light in a predetermined manner, said Dr Paul Marchal, founder and CEO of Morrow. "We are extremely glad that Zeiss Ventures subscribes to our vision: to improve yours by functionalising eyeglasses. This unique partnership helps us to further roll out our product roadmap and build a common platform for electronic glasses.”
