Shamir has launched a new progressive lens, Shamir Autograph Intelligence (AI), that adapts to the diverse needs of today’s presbyope which, the company said, offers wearers a greater visual experience.

The new lens is the result of Shamir research using big data analysis and elements of artificial intelligence. The research, based on five million prescriptions, revealed a correlation between patients’ visual needs and what Shamir calls their “visual age”. This refers to the physiological age of the eye (the required addition) and is generally correlated with the patient’s chronological age.

Paul Stacey, Shamir Australia CEO, said that the company had taken a new direction with Shamir Autograph Intelligence. “Prescribing and dispensing the lens is simple and eliminates the need to ask your customers to complete questionnaires or select an individual progressive type for different needs.” The new lens design is unlike any progressive currently available, he said. “Incorporating our three new ground-breaking technologies - the lens can mimic human behaviour resulting in an optimal user experience for presbyopes involved in a range of activities.”

Within the 12 different additions, there are 440,000 design options, each individual addition has 36,000 different inbuilt options, reinforced by the latest three new Shamir technologies; the Eye Point Technology AI, the Continuous Design Technology and Visual AI Engine.
