Auckland Eye’s Dr Dean Corbett is only the second Kiwi ophthalmologist in history to be invited to join the prestigious International Intra-Ocular Implant Club (IIIC).

Appointment to the IIIC provides its members with worldwide recognition of their contribution to ophthalmic care, particularly in regard to intraocular lenses (IOLs).

The club was founded in 1966 in London to promote research in the field of IOL implantation, encourage the international exchange of ideas concerning anterior segment IOL implantation and promote international understanding of IOL implants.

The first Kiwi appointed to the IIIC was Scottish-born Professor Charles McGhee, chair of ophthalmology at the University of Auckland and current president of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). There are also five Australian members.
