The winner of Haag-Streit’s slit lamp imaging competition is Utpal Sarkar from Disha Eye Hospitals Barrackpore in Kolkata, India with his image ‘Spherophakia’.

Selected from 168 high-calibre entries, the winning picture was taken with a Haag-Streit BX 900 imaging system. Sarkar received top marks for image quality, technical execution and disease interest. The jury said they were especially impressed by the ciliary zonule being fully in focus over nearly 360 degrees of the eye.

Rob Hancock, Wirral University Teaching Hospitals, UK was awarded second place for his image of ocular albinism, while Kathleen Warren, Duke Eye Centre, North Carolina, US, captured epithelial ingrowth to take third place.

The jury of Spain’s Dr Jesús Conejero, ophthalmologist, plus Switzerland’s Marc Curchod, ophthalmic photographer, and Frank Wenger, head of marketing and product development Haag-Streit, said they had a hard time choosing between the exceptional submissions. “We have found the images of incomparable quality," Wenger said. "We are also very proud to see that many of the best images have been captured by our BX 900 slit lamp, which was especially designed for ophthalmic photographers.”
