New to Australasia and making its first appearance in New Zealand, Topcon’s NW500 non-mydriatic retinal camera took pride of place on Device Technologies’ stand at CCLS NZ.

Product specialist Regan Clark said it was exciting to be able to introduce the NW500 as it’s a user-friendly robotic fundus camera which uses completely new technology to reliably capture, sharp-quality images, even through pupils as small as 2.0mm without dilation and in ambient light. “It’s slit-scan illumination and rolling shutter mechanism helps overcome the issue of poorly graded images with less flare and shadow, while its combined LEP and LED light source delivers excellent quality true-colour fundus images for clear review and analysis.”

Using bilateral 2-field photography, the NW500 automatically captures four images, disc-centred then macula-centred, to improve clinical workflow efficiencies, said Topcon. “Stereoscopic photography captures images from two slightly different positions for stereoscopic image viewing to aid in clinical assessment. Peripheral photography can also be accomplished via nine fixation points, while its touch-screen capability offers rapid, simple capture with just one touch and its fully automated operation gives clinicians the flexibility to delegate screening.”

It’s very quick, reliable and accurate, said Clark. “It’s cutting-edge; no other retinal camera uses this technology.”
