Oertli claims its new Faros system can reduce cataract surgery costs and waste

Device Technologies NZ is introducing a new Oertli phacoemulsification system designed to save consumables costs and the environment.

Oertli Instrument’s Faros phaco system features innovative technology, making it cost-effective to use while reducing the carbon footprint of every single cataract surgery, said Device Technologies’ Diego Sonderegger, adding these benefits also apply to Oertli’s CataRhex 3 system. “Both systems are produced exclusively at Oertli’s Swiss state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to strict European and international environmental standards. Their in-house manufacturing not only ensures greater control over production and quality control, but importantly avoids transportation between different production sites, thus reducing CO₂ emissions.”

Considerable cost savings can be achieved without compromise to performance through the design of the fully reusable consumables, including the I/A vacuum cassettes and tubings, said Sonderegger. “These innovations all help surgeons to reduce the current CO₂ emissions and non-recyclable waste associated with cataract surgery.”

The CataRhex 3 system will be on display at the RANZCO NZ branch meeting in Blenheim.
