Celebrating successes and sharing learning, OPSM’s 2023 Eyecare Roadshow ‘The Evolving Lens’ covered the remarkable strides and innovations characterising eyecare over the past decade, said New Zealand country eyecare manager Tegan Matheson. “It recognised the profound desire for exceptional patient care at the core of this evolving profession.”

Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch each played host in New Zealand, with live events streamed to the wider OPSM network. “OPSM optometrists seized the opportunity to connect and share their passion with colleagues across Australia and New Zealand, gaining insights from senior leadership about the pivotal role of eyecare across the region and the global business,” said Matheson. Highlights included presentations from guest speaker Dr Rohan Hughes, lead supervising optometrist at the Queensland University of Technology’s Myopia Control Clinic, and OPSM’s network of myopia leaders, who shared insights on the latest developments in myopia control.

The highly anticipated OPSM Annual Eyecare Awards shone a spotlight on the outstanding achievements from OPSM optometrists, said Matheson. The New Zealand winners were:

• Early Career Optometrist of the Year – Coco Cui, OPSM Botany Downs

• Regional Community Award – Arvin Pingol, OPSM Rotorua

• Mentor of the Year – Timothy Robinson, OPSM The Crossing

• Clinician of the Year – Mimi Wong, OPSM Queenstown

• Patient Choice Award – Mehek Dutta, OPSM Lambton Quay
