Dr Rebecca Stack has joined the board of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO).
A senior doctor at Christchurch Public Hospital and clinical director of the Canterbury District Health Board’s eye department, Dr Stack said she was eager to join the board to provide more female representation and be a voice for New Zealand fellows. “My appointment will bring further diversity of thought and a Kiwi perspective to the board. I hope to be the voice to question the status quo when needed. I’m also passionate about ensuring we select, mentor and train a future generation of eye surgeons and support our current fellows and uphold the standards required for excellent, expert patient care.”
Bringing her experience on New Zealand private company boards, Dr Stack said she enjoys the challenge of setting strategy and working with other board members and the executive team to see an organisation’s aspirations come to fruition. She said she is already busy learning the ropes of RANZCO’s board and getting to know her fellow board members and RANZCO staff. She is looking forward to focusing on ophthalmology’s current challenges, such as workforce shortages, particularly in rural areas, to meet increasing demand and the expanded roles of other health professionals to help provide ophthalmic care.
Dr Stack joins fellow Kiwi member Dr Justin Mora, RANZCO’s censor-in-chief, and Australian board members Professor Nitin Verma (president), Dr Grant Raymond (vice president), Professors Peter McCluskey and Nigel Morlet, Associate Professor Clare Fraser and Drs Diana Conrad, Bob Griffits, Andrew Crawford and Christine Younan.
