Smartphone vision testing company EyeQue is taking crowding-funding Kickstarter pre-orders for its new, improved VisionCheck 2, a refraction device available direct to US consumers.
“We’re proud to offer a solution that is making a positive impact in people’s lives and provides them a means to see more clearly without having to leave the safety and comfort of home,” said John Serri, co-founder and president of EyeQue. “This next-generation VisionCheck was born from two years’ worth of research shaped by customer feedback, including hundreds of testimonials and thousands of survey results. Our team has optimised every aspect of the vision test, from an entirely new form-factor to the reimagined test screens, leading to a markedly better user experience.”
VisionCheck 2 is a lightweight optical smartphone attachment and mobile app. The test results are expressed as Eye Glass Numbers (EGNs), which can be used to order new glasses to correct myopia, presbyopia and astigmatism from online retailers. The tool also includes a pupillary distance (PD) check. Once PDs and EGNs are measured, EyeQue users can order a low-cost pair of test glasses made with the customer’s prescription, for the user to experience wearing the prescription before shopping for new glasses online.
EyeQue said eyecare professionals can use the device for remote vision testing and to issue prescriptions without requiring an in-office visit. Patient data is securely stored in the HIPAA-compliant EyeQue Cloud, and ECPs can access data visualisation maps to make assessments, customise prescriptions, and monitor patient recovery.
