A new organisation to promote the development and knowledge of scleral lenses, the Euro and Austral-Asian Scleral Lens Academy (EASLA), has been created to cater to the public and professionals in Europe, Oceania and Asia.
Co-founder and contact lens specialist Damon Ezekiel said scleral lenses have had a considerable impact worldwide and interest is increasing among professionals and wearers. “However, in many countries, there is still no scientific-educational institution that can represent a meeting point for those interested in analysing and deepening the knowledge of these contact lenses. Hence the need for EASLA,” Ezekiel said.
EASLA will form part of the first International Summit of Specialty Contact Lenses (ISSCL), 8-10 November in Rome.
