University of Auckland Associate Professor Jennifer Craig was awarded a Life Fellowship of the College of Optometrists (UK) for her contribution to the development of the profession through teaching and education, especially in the area of ocular surface disease.
A/Prof Craig who’s work and research into and on dry eye is world-renowned, was presented with her award at Central Hall, Westminster, London on 6 November. At the ceremony, College president, Professor Edward Mallen, said: “It is such a pleasure to honour and celebrate the success of those who have made a significant contribution to the profession and practice of optometry through the awarding of fellowships, research excellence awards and higher qualifications.”
Saying she felt very honoured, A/Prof Craig added the citation given at the “grand” ceremony, listing her achievements was somewhat overwhelming, but she was delighted her parents could be there to share the day with her.
Closer to home, but still with the University of Auckland, Dr Ilva Rupenthal, director of the Buchanan Ocular Therapeutic Unit, was promoted to associate professor and Dr Stuti Misra was promoted to senior lecturer.
