New Zealand’s Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal has cancelled Fischer Eyecare Tauranga director Karl Fischer’s registration.

The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (ODOB) announced the results of the tribunal, at which Fischer was charged with practising as an optometrist when he did not hold a practising certificate and for acting in an inappropriate and/or unprofessional manner in relation to his engagement (or lack thereof) with the board and with the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC).

Having found all charges to be established, the tribunal cancelled Fischer’s registration, censured him to mark the tribunal’s disapproval and fined him. He must also pay a contribution to the PCC’s and the tribunal’s costs. The full written decision will be published on the tribunal’s website in due course, said the ODOB.
