St George’s Eye Care celebrated its fifth anniversary in November, providing some welcome celebratory person-to-person time after the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.
Founded to provide more affordable eye care for the people of Canterbury and the South Island, St George’s has grown and developed into a leading ophthalmology practice in the region, said resident oculoplastic and glaucoma surgeon Dr Paul Baddeley. “We are thrilled to be able to share our success with the local optometry and healthcare community who have supported St George’s Eye Care.”
St George’s welcomed optometrists and other health professionals from across Canterbury to celebrate its fifth birthday with Dr Baddeley and his colleague, surgical and medical retina ophthalmologist, Dr Oliver Comyn, and practice manager Bronwyn Hill.
A registered charity, St George’s Hospital provides eye care treatment support grants for up to 100% of the cost for patients who might otherwise be unable to afford their eye care. Since the eye care division had opened, it has provided grants for private ophthalmology care to more than 150 patients, said Dr Comyn, and the intention is to continue the grant scheme for the foreseeable future.
