A blend of chokeberry, honeysuckle berry and bilberry extract improved near visual acuity and conjunctival hydration in presbyopic subjects, a Polish study found.
The randomised, double-blind, cross-over study evaluated 23 presbyopes over the age of 50 with extensive work-related screen time exposure. Over a period of six weeks, the group was given a mixture of chokeberry, honeysuckle berry and bilberry (AKB) plant extracts (400mg twice daily) or placebo.
Preliminary results showed the AKB supplement improved near visual acuity in 92.3% of the patients, while conjunctival hydration improved in 61.5%, demonstrating the potential effect of AKB supplementation in patients with dry eye syndrome, said researchers.
