Hoya celebrates 50 years in optics!

July 27, 2024 Susanne Bradley

Optometrists and dispensing opticians from near and far joined the Hoya family in Auckland recently to celebrate the lens company’s half-century in optics.

Sharing some of the Australasian vision-care company’s proud history, CEO Craig Chick thanked customers and staff for being an instrumental part of Hoya’s success over the years. “Hoya has always done things a little differently. Fifty years ago, you could only get Hoya lenses from Hoya, which was not the way labs worked back then.” However, maintaining quality control was soon discovered to be key and now the ‘Hoya way’ is everybody’s way, he said.

National training and development manager Ulli Hentschel thanked Australian and New Zealand eyecare practitioners for prescribing MiyoSmart lenses to help control myopia progression. “MiyoSmart are now available in 35 markets globally and the uptake of this revolutionary product has been huge in Australia and New Zealand. This is thanks to our region’s eyecare practitioners, who are at the forefront globally in myopia management.” Hentschel shared Hoya’s future vision, focusing on reducing environmental impact, social responsibility and creating a safe and diverse workplace.

The Hoya Hub

Sara Leonard, commercial systems manager, introduced guests to the company’s latest innovation, the Hoya Hub. A new self-service centre, the Hoya Hub is set to become a one-stop-shop for all things Hoya, she said. Using a single login, users can access the hub’s Hoya Learning Centre, featuring training modules on Hoya products and lens technology, and general optical education – perfect for new team members or those new to Hoya products, she said.

The hub also provides easy access to marketing materials, point-of-sale order forms, downloadable material for digital channels, an up-to-date product guide and the most recent information on products and promotions. Coming soon is the Hoya Order Centre, which will also be accessed through the hub, offering simple navigation, enhanced ordering tools and integration with Optomate, said Leonard.

She then announced the lucky door prize winner, Pene Fox, who won a new iPad Pro, with a two-year license for Hoya Digital Fitting.

No sooner had the gifting ended, delicious whiffs emanated from the kitchen, wrapping up the presentations and making way for some mingling and tasty treats. Happy Birthday, Hoya!
