A record number of nurses are now working to deliver health services to New Zealanders as the Government’s increased funding and new initiatives rebuild key workforces start to show results, according to Health Minister Dr David Clark.
“Nurses are at the heart of our health services. They are often the first point of contact for people seeking healthcare,” said Dr Clark.
The Minister said nurses were one of the key health worker groups to come under increasing pressure as a result of the previous Government’s lack of funding, which failed to keep pace with an increasing population and demand for services.
Since this Government took office, there are 1458 more DHB nurses, 582 more doctors in hospitals and 531 additional allied health workers, he said.
