Optometrists’ input wanted for pigmented eye lesions study

Kiwi optometrists are being invited to participate in a nationwide year-long prospective study on suspicious pigmented eye lesions.

The aim of the study is to establish a streamlined referral process and explore the use of telemedicine for management purposes, said study lead Dr Joevy Lim, a PhD research fellow with the Department of Ophthalmology at Auckland University. “Optometrists’ participation is vital to the success of this national study and their time will be recognised by an exclusive online CPD programme, as well as regular study feedback,” she said.

Participating optometrists are asked to refer suspicious pigmented eye lesions (anterior and/or posterior segment) via an anonymised electronic or physical form which includes details about the patient’s demographics, their medical and ocular history, and about the lesion (including images).
