Always a special occasion, glorious sunshine gave graduation day for the ‘Class of ‘19’ optometry graduates an extra sparkle late last year.
Formalities held in Auckland Town Hall for Auckland University’s School of Optometry and Vision Science graduates were followed by fun in the sun with friends and families, as students officially marked the completion of their degrees.
The Raymond Harry Hawkins Prize in Undergraduate Optometry Research went to Aimee Aitken, while Muthana Noori was awarded the Dean’s Medal and the prize for Excellence in Clinical Optometry. Noori also picked up the received The Senior Scholar Award for the top graduating student in an undergraduate degree. He said, “I am very grateful to have studied alongside amazing colleagues and world-class teachers and scientists. The School of Optometry is highly supportive of student excellence which I truly appreciated.”
Last year’s Anna Pritchard Prize for Optical Dispensing was presented to Mary Rush, who was also amongst winners of the New Zealand College of Optometrists prize for best project presentation with Muthana Noori, Celine Fung, and Philip Riley.
