This year’s national Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) conference ‘Connect 2024’ is gearing up for a weekend of first-class education focusing on central and peripheral vision, visual processing assessment, plus patient and practice success.
Hosted at the Crowne Plaza Gold Coast from 6-7 July 2024, the conference coincides with both New Zealand’s and Australia’s school holidays, making it an excellent opportunity to combine valuable CPD with a family holiday, said ACBO’s immediate-past president Evan Brown.
Keynote speakers are optometrists Drs Brenda Montecalvo (US) and Angela Peddle (Canada). With 30 years of specialised certification in optometric vision therapy, Dr Montecalvo is a highly sought-after practitioner who lectures internationally on neuro-optometric rehabilitation, optometric vision therapy and therapeutic lens prescribing. Besides her private practice, she is chair of the American Optometric Association Vision Rehabilitation Section and associate clinical educator for Western College of Optometry and The Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Founding president of Canadian Optometrists in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation (now Vision Therapy Canada) Dr Peddle was the country’s first private practice optometrist to offer a residency programme in vision therapy and rehabilitation for optometrists. She has published articles and posters on strabismus, amblyopia and learning-related vision problems and offers courses in these areas as well as vision therapy techniques, oculomotor dysfunctions and binocular vision.
The Saturday night ACBO conference dinner is included in the registration, with organisers offering limited availability to bring partners for an additional fee. This year’s dress-up theme is red/green or red/blue! Early bird rates end 30 April 2024. Members who register while the early bird rate is active will go into a draw to receive a half-price registration fee. For more, see https://www.acbo.org.au/professionals/menu/education
