Zeiss Eyewear’s new Architekt range has won the prestigious German Design Award for excellent product design in the lifestyle and fashion category.

The Architekt Kollektion was created by architect and designer Elmar Gauggel and includes six optical frames and two sunglass models, combining original design while embracing new technologies and materials. ‘’For me, the design is an attempt to break out of conventional and conservative standards, without being extreme,” said Gauggel, who’s named each frame after a renowned architect: Alvar, Elmar, Gustave, Margarete, Oscar, Toyo, Walter and Zaha. “The versions cite a timelessly aesthetic functionalism, with unexpected comfort and good fit.”
The annual German Design Awards are a highlight in the design world calendar, awarding projects that represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape.
