US eyecare tech company EyeQue has developed a smartphone app for presbyopes to determine the strength of the over-the-counter reading glasses they need.
The company claims the augmented-reality-powered MyReaderNumber app takes around one minute to deliver personalised measurements for both near reading distance and mid-distance (for computer use), based on the user’s age and distance preference. The app is registered as a US Food and Drug Administration class 1 medical device, costs US$2.99 (NZ$4.37) and is currently only compatible with the iPhone X or newer.
