The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has launched its annual development programme to celebrate the world’s Eye Health Heroes.
Caroline Casey, president of IAPB, said: “We encourage you to nominate your hero; whether someone is a change-maker, an innovator or a future leader, we are looking for passionate people with a commitment to eye health who we want to recognise and help tell their story.”
Anyone under 35 years old and working in eye health can be nominated in one of three categories: Leaders, Change-makers or Innovators. The winners, who will be announced in November, will receive media and communications training, plus the chance to learn from leaders from a range of disciplines. “It is so important for more people to know the importance of eye health to our lives and the economy,” said Grace Chew from Singapore who was 2020’s Eye Health Hero winner for her work with the Essilor Vision Foundation’s Village Screening Programme in Indonesia and for improving access to eyecare for communities in East Java. “I hope that by talking about our work as Eye Health Heroes, more people around the world will know about eye health.”
