The popular Cornea & Contact Lens Society (CCLS) one-day conference is back this year on Sunday 28 February at the Harbourside Function Venue (formally Mac’s) on Wellington’s waterfront.
CCLS NZ president Roberta McIlraith said she’s looking forward to welcoming optometrists and ophthalmologists alike to join their colleagues and industry partners to pick up some ‘clinical gold nuggets’ and to discuss the latest developments in the cornea and contact lens fields. “This will be the first conference since Covid-19 started shutting down events in March 2020, including our own, and it offers an exciting opportunity to get together and learn from our fantastic, home-grown experts in eyes.”
The 2021 keynote speaker is Auckland-based corneal and anterior segment specialist Dr Sue Ormonde, who is mixing it up this year with a variety of talks, said McIlraith, “including a couple of entertaining double-acts with some familiar favourites!”
Sunday’s programme offers a mix of keynote addresses and rapid-fire talks followed by panel discussions. Dr Ormonde will cover four topics and could have you looking at the dark side of the moon judging by the name of her first session, Pink Floyd, with co-speaker Professor Charles McGhee. Her other talks cover herpes, keratoconus and refractive surgery with co-speaker Eleisha Dudson.
There’s also an informal get together at the Hop Garden on the Saturday night at 6.30pm that should not be missed, said McIlraith. “The Hop Garden is a central city garden bar and eatery with a real Wellington vibe and live music. Tell your eye friends and make a weekend of it.”
