The much anticipated, annual Cornea and Contact Lens Society (CCLS) of New Zealand’s one-day Wellington conference on Sunday 29 March and its related Myopia Profile Live workshop on Saturday 28 March are the latest eye health meetings to fall to Covid-19.
In a note to delegates, CCLS NZ president Roberta McIlraith said it was with much regret that she was announcing the cancellation due to the necessary measures now required to minimise the possibility of community spread of Covid-19. “We understand that this is frustrating as many of you will have made substantial plans to attend the event. With International speakers, members of DHBs and the University of Auckland now having travel restrictions placed upon them, and stricter measures around social gatherings likely to be put in place this week, we are no longer in a position to be able to proceed with the event.”
Delegates will be fully refunded, she said, and the board looks forward to “providing a bumper conference in 2021!”
In separate news the University of Auckland’s School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) announced the cancellation of the 16th Scientific and 10th Educators’ Meeting in Optometry (SEMO) which was to have been held from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 April 2020. “It is with great regret that the organising committee of SEMO 2020 announce that due to the current situation related to Covid-19 and subsequent travel restrictions, SEMO 2020 is cancelled and no further registrations will be taken.”
